A Contemporary Interpretation of Heritage at Mandarin Oriental Savoy, Zurich

Following an extensive restoration, the Mandarin Oriental Savoy, Zurich has reopened as a refined destination where history and contemporary design exist in perfect harmony.

Originally established in 1838 as Zurich's first grand hotel, the landmark has been thoughtfully reimagined by renowned French interior designer Tristan Auer, preserving its architectural heritage while introducing a distinctly modern sense of luxury.

Within the hotel's Savoy Brasserie & Bar, warm natural materials and carefully composed details create an atmosphere that feels both elegant and inviting. Soft textiles, rich timber finishes and sculptural lighting are balanced by generous proportions, allowing guests to experience the space with a sense of calm and comfort.

A Fifth Wall That Defines the Space

Rather than drawing attention to itself, the ceiling becomes an integral architectural element.

For this project, Tristan Auer selected Sycamore SYC2130, an exquisite natural wood veneer wallcovering from Omexco's Sycamore collection. Applied across the sweeping ceiling planes, the veneer introduces a subtle geometric composition whose changing grain captures the light throughout the day. Rather than serving as decoration alone, the ceiling becomes a defining architectural feature that envelops guests in warmth.

Design That Endures

The transformation of the Mandarin Oriental Savoy, Zurich demonstrates how carefully considered materials can shape the atmosphere of a space.

By elevating the ceiling into an architectural statement, Omexco's wallcovering veneer adds warmth, rhythm and natural elegance to Tristan Auer's interior vision.

it is a subtle intervention that enriches the guest experience, proving that some of the most memorable design moments are found not only on the walls, but above them as well.
