Wallcoverings belong on walls — it’s in the name, after all. But at Omexco, we believe the most inspiring interiors are those where rules are gently bent, or beautifully broken. Below, we share five (plus a bonus!) imaginative ways designers have taken our wallcoverings beyond the expected….

1. the fifth wall
Traditionally we cover the four walls in a room. Have you ever considered the fifth wall? The ceiling is often overlooked — yet it’s one of the most transformative surfaces in a room. Whether you opt for a statement marquetry pattern (as seen in Anne Barger Designs in Austin, Texas) or to drench all 5 walls with our textured wallcoverings to make the room feel like a warm hug. The ceiling is your oyster.
ii. tactile cabinetry
Cabinet doors, wardrobe fronts & built-ins are omnipresent in our interiors. Other than being functional, why not make them pretty too? Adding a layer of wallcovering can bring richness, warmth, or even softness to a space. PS. Covering cabinet with a wallcovering can even impact the sound in a room!
iii. the unexpected backdrop
Shelving is more than storage — it’s a stage. Lining the back of open bookcases or niches with wallcovering adds depth, colour and a refined texture that subtly elevates everything placed in front. See the example of Aurélie Penneman in the city of Gent, where the result gives an elegant & unexpected touch to the shelf and the beautifully curated décor.

iv. frame it
What if your wallcovering was the artwork? Our wallcoverings are created by our incredible designteam & amazing artisans. The time and effort that our craft takes deserves to be framed. Designer JJ Acuna framed our wallcovering JOY in the restaurant Carlo’s in Manila — a poetic gesture that proves good materials deserve the spotlight.

v. sleeping beauty
The bedroom may be for sleeping, but that doesn’t mean it should be an afterthought. Headboards are a perfect canvas for a feature wallcovering and to reflect your personality into this small but impactful feature wall. Wake up to beauty. Drift off to texture.

Small cutoffs leftover from your wallcovering project? Use it to make-over your passé partout of your art frame. Cover the mat with the wallcovering to make a small impact both in design and into the environment.
